Our Story

Our Story

A volunteer effort built on one idea: nobody should be cut off from food, care, housing, or schooling by a website they cannot use.

Why We Exist

The help exists. People still cannot find it.

A family new to the country needs pantry hours in a language they read. A neighbor without a car needs to know which clinic takes walk-ins. A volunteer team needs a simpler way to track donations. Staff need training so a system survives after launch. Those needs are ordinary, but professional IT services are often priced out of reach for the organizations answering them.

The Pixel Bridge was founded to close that gap. Technology should be a bridge, not a barrier, and whether a neighbor can reach an essential service shouldn't come down to whether the organization providing it could afford a developer.

Technology is infrastructure

For a small nonprofit, digital infrastructure, translation, tools, and training are how people actually reach the programs. They should not be the line items that get cut.

Our Commitment

We start from the community an organization is trying to reach, work backwards to whatever is standing in the way, and do only what we can genuinely sustain. The people waiting on that service deserve a straight answer more than an eager one.

What Drives Us

Done properly, taught clearly, released openly

Free work has a reputation for being rough, temporary, and abandoned. We think that's worse than no work, because the person who gets turned away by a broken form is rarely the person who built it.

So we take on few partners and build properly: accessible, documented, taught to the people who will use it, and supported after launch. When a tool, template, script, or workflow can help others, we plan to release it under the MIT license.

Our Values

What we stand for

Accessibility

Everything we build is meant to work for people using screen readers, older phones, slow connections, and languages other than English. Multilingual is a requirement, not an add-on.

Excellence

Donated work should hold up to the same standard as paid work. Anything less shifts the cost onto the people being served, who can least afford it.

Sustainability

We keep carrying infrastructure, hosting, handoff, and support, because a service listing that goes stale sends people to a door that is no longer open.

Community

We're based in Massachusetts and work with organizations serving our own neighbors. Our intention is to release what we build openly, so other nonprofits and developers can use it without starting over.

Our Team

The person behind the bridge

Alex Cheung, Founder. The Pixel Bridge is a one-person operation: Alex personally scopes, designs, builds, teaches, and supports every partnership we take on. That's the reason we take on few projects at a time and say so plainly rather than promising more than one person can do well.

As we grow, we're looking to bring on volunteer designers and developers so we can serve more organizations. If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
